Fiona Bowie (Vancouver) has created a photo-montage of film images which portray a chance conversation between two strangers at a traffic intersection. The conversation revolves around uncertainties, where the gestures of both people, who know nothing of each other, cannot be presumed to be entirely understood. In Sophie Calle’s videotape, Double-Blind, made with Greg Shepherd, the nature of truth is always illusive. Calle (France) and Shepherd ostensibly agree to travel together, knowing each other only slightly. Each videotapes the other as their relationship develops. The tape reveals their inner monologues interwoven with their overt actions. Like in a soap opera, the viewer becomes involved in their intimate dance of communications and diversions, never quite knowing the line between fiction and reality. As well, Lorna Simpson’s video projection Call Waiting will be presented. Lorna Simpson lives in the U.S.
